Santiago Ydáñez's pictorial work deals with monographic themes related to the expression of the body and, fundamentally, of the gaze. In his works there is always a dialogue between the fetishistic nature of the voyeur and the credulous naivety of the devotee. Behind his paintings there is always meticulous research with frequent references to the great masters of art history. Ydáñez is currently one of the Spanish artists with the greatest international projection as a protagonist of the renovation of painting in our country with his own figurative language, which has earned him great visibility in the contemporary panorama.
His works are based on observation and are inspired by childhood memories and impressions. An extensive catalogue of mental images that he fuses with his cultural interests and his passion for the history of art and literature. Among the major themes he deals with in his works, there are five that stand out and emerge as independent facets of a fully consolidated career: the human condition from a sometimes tenebrist costumbrismo, the emotional expressiveness of animals, the desacralisation of religion and the revision of classical mythology, historical scenes and nature.
In fact, nature is the theme of the painting with which we have dressed the lobby of Ikon, our emblematic project designed by Ricardo Bofill. Luxury, calm and voluptuousness is the title of this large 7x4 metre work. Its unmistakable brushstrokes transport us to a high mountain scene capable of conveying the grandeur of an alpine landscape in the heart of Valencia. Its intense green and blue tones contrast with the neutral palette of the building and generate a fourth dimension that brings depth and organicity to the tower's spacious lobby.
